Ration Box

Ration Box is an item used to store and maintain your Food. One is always generated to the left of the Printing Pod at the start of every game with 16,000 kcal of Nutrient Bars inside, and its filter set to Nutrient Bars only. It can store 150 kg of food.

Ration Boxes can be renamed.
Food stored in the Ration Box will slowly grow stale and eventually rot. If food becomes rotten, the box will drop it as Rot pile.
Food perishes at a rate depending on the surrounding atmosphere. A cold climate reduces spoilage, while Carbon Dioxide, Hydrogen, Chlorine and Vacuums will halt spoilage entirely.
- Polluted Oxygen accelerates the decay of food by 13%/cycle, even when stored in a cold area or a Refrigerator.
- Nutrient Bars, Muckroot, and Hexalent Fruit do not spoil and might serve as a backup food source.
The starting Ration Box is made of Sedimentary Rock. Destroying it allows Sedimentary Rock to be filterable in Storage Boxes & Critter Feeders for Stone Hatch farming, which is often inaccessible early on due to the Granite barriers.
The best way to ensure your food does not rot is to keep your Ration Boxes in pits filled with Carbon Dioxide. Being one of the heaviest gasses, it will stay in the pit and prevent spoilage with minimum effort.
