Research is done at a Research Station, Super Computer or Virtual Planetarium.

In order to do research at tier 1 and 2, you must have power and Dirt being delivered to your Research Station. The 1st and 2nd tier of research projects require several iterations of Novice Research. You will not have access to the higher tier power generators when you start, so you will need a manual generator. Each Novice Research point costs 50 kg's of dirt. The 3rd totth tiers will require the Super Computer as well - provided with power and Water, as they all contain many iterations of Novice and Advanced Research. Each Advanced Research point costs 50 kg's of water. These stations may have decor value, but they currently serve no function once all research projects are completed and may be deconstructed. Duplicants must be have at least the advanced research skill able to use the Super Computer. Finally tier 8+ research requires Interstellar research which is obtained from a Virtual Planetarium given data bank's and power as well as a duplicant with the Astronomy skill. 1 data bank is required per Interstellar research point. Data Banks can only be acquired via space missions with Research Modules installed.
